COVID-19: South Africa on lockdown
On Monday, 23 March 2020, South African president Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national 21-day lockdown in South Africa from midnight 26 March 2020 until 16 April 2020. This follows the declaration of a national disaster on Sunday, 15 March 2020. The success of our efforts in combating this COVID-19 pandemic depends on the efforts of every citizen and their commitment to help others. The fight against COVID-19 remains a collective responsibility.

A huge thank you to all the disaster managers, first responders, health workers, doctors, nurses and paramedics who are on the frontline of the pandemic including the military, border officials, police and traffic officers and all the volunteers as well their leaders and management, heading up the response.
