Entries about to close for Toughest Firefighter Alive South Africa 2019!
Entries for participation in the Toughest Firefighter Alive South Africa 2019 Challenge will close on 13 September 2019. Last chance to register for this prestigious event! TFA-SA 2019 will be held at Roeland Street Fire Station in Cape Town on 20 to 21 September 2019 and is based on the international TFA competition that is held biennially worldwide at the World Firefighter Games (WFG-World Championship) and annually in Germany (European Open). The event will be officially opened by City of Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato with CFO Ian Schnetler welcoming the participants and Alderman JP Smith delivering the keynote address.
Toughest Firefighter Alive South Africa was officially started in 2011 with an average of 145 competitors from fire fighters from different municipalities, the armed forces, ports authority and aviation competing in the annual event held in South Africa. The competition is considered to be South Africa’s Premier Firefighter Challenge. Not only does the TFA challenge the fitness, strength and endurance of fire fighters but it builds morale, confidence and camaraderie between the different teams and team players.
We are very honoured to have received messages of support from Claudia Consoir-Dove, TFA Germany eV, the main organiser of the TFA in the world and John Hartley, Executive Director of the World Firefighters Games WA Inc, both who commend the NPO, Firefighters for Excellence and the organising team for diligently adhering to the international standards.
The TFA, recognised as the hardest fire fighter competition in the world, is a fitness challenge specifically for fire fighters, where they can compete in various male and female age individual and team categories, with the winners becoming national champions within their divisions.
The South African TFA Open 2019 competition will be the sixth biennale running of the event.
From Claudia Consoir-Dove, TFA Germany eV
Dear fire fighters of South Africa, soon the Toughest Firefighter Alive (TFA) will take place again in South Africa, an event that nobody should miss. The competition is both: sport and demonstration! Show your people what fire fighters have to do in action. And get to know your own limits. Limits that you can encounter in actual practice.
The TFA South Africa will be conducted according to the rules and high standards we have set up at the Toughest Firefighter Alive Germany.
The high standard of these rules led the World Firefighter Games (WFG) to persuade the World Firefighter Games Corporation to adopt them as the rules for the World Cup.
That means, those who participates in South Africa automatically trains also for the World Firefighter Games, which will take place in August 2020 in Denmark.
Best of luck to our friends of the TFA organisers and teams in South Africa!
From John Hartley, Executive Director of the World Firefighters Games WA Inc
To all of the fire fighters of South Africa, both current and former. My name is John Hartley and I am the Executive Director of World Firefighters Games WA Inc. the governing body of the World Firefighters Games.
It gives me great pleasure to be able to write to you at this time I have been involved with the games since 1994 and I have been here for both the highs and lows which in reflection is what life is all about and right now we are all on a high and looking forward to the 14th World Firefighters Games in Aalborg, Denmark, next year. I have made several friends throughout South Africa and these friendships have been brought about by both theirs and my involvement with the games and I believe this is what our event is all about, friendship.
The games are to be run from 22 to 29 August next year and I can assure you the Aalborg team are going to give everyone attending a great time right from the opening ceremony to the closing dinner. In between these two events will be eight days of intense competition and enjoyment where fire fighters from all around the world come together to compete, make new friends and generally have a great time.
I firmly expect the competition across all events will be the best it has ever been and I don’t think I would be wrong in saying that the firefighters from South Africa will be challenging for medals in the events of their choice. I am sure SA fire fighters competing in the Toughest Firefighter Alive will push the other competitors to the very end especially as the winner of Toughest Fire Fighter Alive South Africa will be there.
In the meantime, I would like to wish all of those competing in the TFA South Africa on the 20 and 21 September 2019 all the best in the upcoming competition. I look forward to seeing you in Aalborg, Denmark, next year where we can all have a great time!
