Tshwane Emergency Services’ lauds international bodybuilding champion
The Tshwane Emergency Services Department is very proud and honoured to have a Mr Universe bodybuilding champion in its ranks. Company Commander Ferdinand (Ferdie) Pieterse took part in the Mr Universe competition in the Masters class in Los Angeles, USA, during November 2018, at the age of 51. He won the title, his fourth. At the time of winning the title, Commander Pieterse weighed only 97 kilograms, with only four percent body fat!
The other prestigious titles he has won are:
• SA Masters champion, September 2010;
• World Bodybuilding Federation's World Championships, in Slovakia, October 2010; and
• Masters World Bodybuilding Championships, in Italy, 2017.
Commander Pieterse has been a committed sportsman from his young days. He overcame various injuries from sport such as rugby and powerlifting, receiving provincial colours in 2004 and 2005, to later take up bodybuilding as his passion.
Commander Pieterse trains five to six times a week for 90 minutes at a time, doing weight training and various cardiovascular exercises. In order to stay in good shape and build his body, he follows a high-protein diet with lots of fruit and vegetables year-round and tries to avoid processed foods, sweets and alcohol. However, he will indulge sometimes during the off-season, during weekends or while on holiday.
Company Commander Pieterse has served the Emergency Services Department for the past 28 years and is a seasoned, specialised rescue and hazardous materials technician. He is very optimistic about competing in more championships all over the world and winning more titles.
Tshwane Emergency Services wishes him all the best and assures him of its continued support.
