The PurrPaws For Life Animal Shelter said, in its latest update that its owner has been admitted to the hospital on Thursday, 31 January 2019. The shelter says Lindie van Rooyen, who lives on the property and owns the shelter, was admitted for smoke inhalation and also sustained light burn wounds. According to the latest reports, out of the 100 dogs that were in the house, at least 30 dogs died in the blaze while the house has burnt completely. By late on Thursday night, more than 200 dogs were placed in foster care but it is understood that many more need temporary foster care. Purrpaws expressed its sincere thanks to everyone who has assisted them thus far, including other shelters. They asked anyone who can to bring dog and cat food, water or clothes for three people who lived in the house who lost everything, as well as other workers who need clothes and food. Electricians who can assist in getting the property’s borehole pump running again would be of great help. The shelter urged the community not to visit the shelter before 10h00 and to understand that van Rooyen cannot take calls at the moment. Other staff members are manning the phones at this stage.
