All Hazard Scenario-Based Training Exercise held in the Western Cape
NCC Environmental Services presented an All Hazard Scenario-Based Training Exercise to various emergency agencies in the Western Cape on behalf of Western Cape Government's Chief Directorate: Disaster Management and Fire and Rescue Services in Bredasdorp, Western Cape. The course was based around an urban search and rescue incident, in this case an apartment block collapse in Hermanus, Western Cape. The course required a selected Type II Incident Management Team (IMT) to manage the event, incident on delegation from the Western Cape Government, run through the scenario and then transition the ‘incident’ back to the Overstrand Municipality. The agencies represented at this course were Western Cape Government, CapeNature, Greater Overberg FPA, City of Cape Town, Witzenberg Municipality, West Coast District Municipality, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Overstrand Municipality, Volunteer Wildfire Services, South African Police Service, FireWeb Incident Management, SARL Hamnet and the Overberg District Municipality.
The venue was kindly arranged by the Overberg District Municipality at Bredasdorp Park NAMPO Kaap/Cape. Dean Ferreira from NCC Environmental Services and Alan Sinclair from Siphon Draw Fire and Fuels presented the exercise over the three days. For the first time virtual reality injects where used to give context to the participants, thanks to Bryan and his team from XRGlobal for helping to make this exercise more "real". The course was a great success and those that participated are now in a better position to manage high level incidents as and when they might happen. Source: NCC Wildfires |
