Four suspects arrested in murder of Pretoria paramedic, Braam Kruger
A major breakthrough has been made in the brutal killing of beloved Pretoria paramedic, Abraham “Braam” Kruger. The 40-year-old emergency services veteran was murdered on Thursday, 2 April 2026, at a guesthouse in Brooklyn, Pretoria. He was found tied up, with clear signs of a struggle, after checking in with a group of men who later fled the scene. In a coordinated multi-agency operation, police tracked the suspects from Gauteng to KwaZulu-Natal and back. In the early hours of 12 April 2026, four suspects were arrested during a tactical raid in Protea Glen, Soweto.
Authorities confirmed the suspects have been positively identified. Cellphones, bank cards, and clothing believed to be linked to the crime were seized and booked as evidence at Brooklyn SAPS. A manhunt is still underway for a fifth suspect.
Braam, who would have turned 41 just days after his death, was known for his dedication to saving lives. His murder has shaken the entire Pretoria emergency services community.
The SAPS said in its statement, “On 12 April 2026 at approximately 04:15, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) successfully arrested four suspects linked to the murder of Mr Braam Kruger at a guest house in Brooklyn.
Preliminary investigations, supported by intelligence gathering and the analysis of available evidence, indicated that the suspects originate primarily from the KwaZulu-Natal region. It was further established that the group travelled to Durban approximately three days after the incident.”
“A multidisciplinary team was subsequently mobilised and deployed to KwaZulu-Natal to pursue the suspects. While en route, updated intelligence was received indicating that the suspects were returning to Gauteng. Acting swiftly on this information, the team redeployed to the Protea Glen area, where a premises previously associated with the suspects was identified.”
“Upon entry, members located four male suspects inside the residence. All four individuals were positively linked to the Brooklyn murder investigation and were arrested without incident.”
“Investigations are ongoing to locate and apprehend a fifth suspect believed to be involved in the matter.”
“The District Commissioner, Major General Samuel Thine commended the members involved in the operation for their exceptional commitment, professionalism, and resilience. Kruger had been a paramedic with Emer-G-Med, a private ambulance service, before working as an operations executive at EQiGate, a private healthcare company where he was employed until his death.
Private ambulance service CrisisOnCall wrote on its Facebook page that Kruger was a popular and “dedicated paramedic who served with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to saving lives”.
