Bloemfontein bus accident kills driver
A bus accident, which occurred on Tuesday, 8 December 2020 on the N1 near Bloemfontein, killed the bus driver with 49 passengers escaping injury. “Mangaung crews responded to the bus accident approximately 130kms south on the N1 near Springfontein, Bloemfontein at 03h04am and arrived 04h27am”, reported Braam van Zyl, divisional officer at Mangaung Fire and Rescue Service. “A crew of six fire fighters and one station officer with a fire tender responded from Ehrlichpark Fire Station in Bloemfontein, two Free State Provincial Ambulances form Springfontein and an ambulance from ER24 Bloemfontein responded. The driver of the Peugeot Boxer pulling a trailer was driving north on the N1 towards Bloemfontein when the trailer started to swerve across the road and the bus traveling south towards Cape Town collided with the trailer and the Peugeot. On scene, there was one dead on arrival (DOA), the bus driver who was extricated with hydraulic equipment. There were 49 passengers with no injuries. The front of the bus at the driver's side was damaged, the Peugeot was damaged on its right side and the trailer completely destroyed. The trapped driver was extricated at 04h57.
