Cape Town fire fighters respond to factory fire in Woodstock
City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to a factory alight in Woodstock on Saturday, 5 December 2020.”The incident was first spotted on the Traffic Management Cameras (TMC) when smoke was seen in that vicinity,” reported Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson, City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service. “We responded with fire engines and crew from Brooklyn, Roeland Street and Sea Point fire stations, a hazmat unit from Bellville and water tankers from Goodwood, Epping, Lakeside and Mitchell’s Plain fire stations respectively. A total of 30 staff members were on scene. Operations included fire fighting and exposure protection and the fire was extinguished at 19h59. The building was completely gutted by the fire and the contents consisting of machinery and office furniture totally destroyed. The adjacent building at the rear sustained heat damage as well. The fire fighters had to be aware of the structural damages the building sustained in case of roof and wall collapse.”
