Fire breaks out at farm and lifestyle venue, Plettenburg Bay

A fire broke out at the Shabby Fufu Lifestyle Farm and Venue, a much-loved farm destination and lifestyle venue near Plettenberg Bay on Sunday, 7 December 2025 at 23h08. Bitou Fire and Rescue Services chief fire office Hedley Venter, said, “The call was received at 23h08 from the SAPS and the first vehicle was on scene at 23h18, followed by tanker pumper and a tanker. Response included three vehicles and five staff members, one senior firefighter and firefighters from Bitou Fire and Rescue, Vehicles included one tanker pumper, one tanker and one LDV/skid. Harkerville Rural Response responded with a Buffel.”
“The building was fully alight upon arrival of the fire crew and operations included exposure protection, containment and mop up operations. Mopping up was completed at around 03h54 and at 06h46, the day shift crew went back to the site to complete mop ups as the structure was not safe for firefighters to enter into the building”, said CFO Venter.
He added, “No Injuries were reported to fire crew while on site; the building, however, was a complete loss. Challenges faced included that water had to be sourced from New Horizon (7km away) as there is no municipal water in the area of fire.”
Shabby Fufu, opened in March 2021, quickly became one of Plettenberg Bay’s standout attractions — combining a family-friendly environment with rustic charm, artisan markets, farm-to-table offerings and an array of events for residents and travellers alike.
In a statement released, the owners expressed “immense heartbreak and overwhelming shock” at the loss, emphasising how deeply the venue had been woven into the fabric of the local community. They extended gratitude to emergency personnel, supporters and loyal patrons who have frequented the farm since its opening.
