Residential property in Bloemfontein razed by kitchen fire
A residential property in outside Bloemfontein burned down on Sunday morning, 7 February 2021. Braam van Zyl, divisional officer at Mangaung Fire Department said, “A large residential property outside Bloemfontein burned down completely. Managung Fire Department responded with 10 fire fighters and three vehicles dispatched from Central and Ehrlich Park fire stations. The first vehicle arrived on scene within 18 minutes. The couple and their three teenagers as well as an elderly woman, their grandmother, were roused at midnight by a loud noise coming from their kitchen. Upon investigation, they realised that the kitchen was on fire and that it had spread into the roof. When the fire brigade arrived at the scene the fire had already progressed to an advanced stage. It took three hours to contain the fire by pumping water from a nearby cement dam. The local neighbourhood watch lent invaluable assistance.”
