Man dies, two others injured after house collapses in Randburg, Johannesburg
A man has died and two others have been injured after the collapse of a house structure in Boskruin, in Randburg. It's understood the men were on duty renovating the house on Wednesday afternoon when the accident happened. The man, who is in his 30s, died when a concrete slab fell on him. Robert Mulaudzi, media liaison officer for City of Johannesburg Emergency Services (CoJEMS), said, “On Wednesday, 10 February 2021 at around 14h30 we were alerted of a structural collapse in Boskruin in Randburg. Three construction workers were injured while conducting some renovations in a house, one construction worker was confirmed dead on scene while the other two received minor injuries were transported to Wilgehuewel Hospital in Randburg for further medical care. The CoJEMS Urban Search and Rescue Team used specialised rescue equipment to recover the body and handed it over to SAPS for further investigations. When ER24 arrived at the scene, they found that part of a roof had fallen on a construction worker, two men were attempting to free the man from beneath the concrete. “On assessment, medics found that the man had already succumbed to his injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead,” said Russel Meiring, ER24 communication officer. “The two other men were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were treated and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further care.” Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
