The Disaster Management Institute of Southern Africa (DMISA) Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Webinar 2021 replaces the annual DMISA Conference that was planned for 2020 and which had to be postponed due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. DMISA hopes to enable participation by a wider audience through the DMISA DRR Webinar 2021, providing opportunity for a diverse range of stakeholders in disaster management from across Africa and the world to gather and share skills, knowledge and experience in order to promote disaster risk reduction in Southern Africa and beyond. The DMISA DRR Webinar 2021 is dedicated to enhancing strategy and execution in disaster reduction, bringing about real impact in the battle to reduce disaster risk and build resilience and exercising real influence towards disaster risk reduction across sectors and disciplines. The webinar will focus on past and future manifestations of disaster risk in Southern Africa and internationally and building enlightened consensus towards active disaster risk reduction, resilience and risk governance in both urban and rural settings. DMISA would like to encourage innovate and forward-looking discourse that activates and encourages on a practical level.
