Bombardier Challenger 300 crashes near San Fernando Airport in Argentina

On Wednesday, 18 December 2024, a Bombardier Challenger 300 crashed after landing at San Fernando International Airport (QAE), located just to the northwest of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The aircraft was reportedly unable to break after it touched down at the airport, which eventually caused the aircraft to veer off the runway into a line of houses. The resulting crash caused an explosion and the plane burst into flames. The two occupants of the aircraft, the pilot and the co-pilot, were both sadly killed in the incident.
According to Flightradar24, the Bombardier Challenger 300 that crashed in Argentina was registered as LV-GOK. This aircraft began the day by departing from San Fernando International Airport (QAE) on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina, at approximately 11:12 local time. The aircraft then flew for just over half an hour to Punta del Este International Airport (PDP) in La Capuera, Uruguay, landing at approximately 11:44 local time. This flight was to transport several passengers.
The aircraft was scheduled to return to Buenos Aires shortly after. According to Flightradar24, the Bombardier Challenger 300 departed La Capuera, Uruguay, at approximately 12:44 local time. The flight back to San Fernando International Airport lasted approximately 34 minutes. The aircraft touched down on San Fernando International Airport's runway 05 at approximately 13:18 local time.
However, according to multiple sources, the Challenger 300 had extreme difficulty braking once it touched down. This caused the aircraft to veer off the runway, run over the airport perimeter fence and eventually crash into a row of houses lined up outside the airport perimeter.
The crashed aircraft engulfed the houses, and the local fire department immediately responded to the incident. Nearby houses to the incident were evacuated. First responders to the plane crash have confirmed that the two occupants of the Challenger 300, the pilot and the co-pilot, were found to be deceased in the wreckage.
According to Yahoo! News, the aircraft was owned by Jorge Brito. Brito owns Banco Macro, Argentina's largest bank, and is also the President of the River Plate soccer club. Brito's father, also named Jorge, was killed in a helicopter crash in 2020.

It also has a supercritical wing and fly-by-wire control systems. Beyond that, early variants of the Challenger 300 are powered by the Honeywell HTF7000 turbofan engine.
