Another vehicle crashed off Chapman’s Peak Drive, Cape Town; 240m drop
Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson, City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service, said, “The City’s Fire and Rescue Service received a call at approximately 17h53 on Monday, 4 April 2022. The Fire and Rescue Service and Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) technical teams went down the embankment to rescue the woman. They packaged the lady in a stretcher in order for her to be carried to safety. The female driver was the only occupant and sustained possible bi-lateral femur fractures and right ankle broken. The patient was loaded into the ambulance at 21h55 and subsequently treated and assessed. At 22h21 she was transported to Vincent Palotti Hospital by ER24 ambulance. Crews from Kommetjie, Lakeside and Roeland Street Fire were on scene as well as Cape Medical Response ambulance. This was the second incident in the last few months where crews were called to assist a motorist going down the embankment.” WSAR said in its statement, “WSAR technical teams were activated to assist other emergency services after a vehicle left the road on Chapman’s Peak Drive late on Monday. The vehicle descended approximately 240m down a steep slope. Medical personnel were able to hike down to the patient.”
WSAR added, “Once on scene, the team set up a hauling system to assist the carriers to safely bring the patient and stretcher back up to the road. The incident was concluded at 23h00 and the injured driver was taken to hospital.
