IFSTA releases Chief Officer, 5th Edition
The International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA), a leader of fire service training materials since 1934, released the 5th edition of Chief Officer. This edition is developed for current and potential chief officers to ensure the complete comprehension of the responsibility to supervise, manage, and administer fire and emergency services organizations. Chief Officer, 5th Edition addresses Fire Officer levels III and IV of NFPA 1020, Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, Fire Officer, and Emergency Medical Services Officer Professional Qualifications (2025). The standard provides the guidelines for transitioning from the company officer, who is responsible for tactical operations and single-company supervision, to the chief officer, who is responsible for strategic objectives and large-scale operations and projects.
Chief Officer, 5th Edition furthers IFSTA’s mission to develop and validate training materials for fire and emergency services. From backing local fire prevention activities to global support for legislative and fire research projects, IFSTA is proud to be invested in all levels of today’s fire service community.
