Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Pratap, the first of two Pollution Control Vessels, was commissioned by Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh at Goa Shipyard Ltd, #Goa on 05 January 2026. Built by #GSL with over 60% indigenous content, the 114.5 metre, 4 200 ton vessel boasts a speed of more than 22 knots and an endurance of 6 000nm, significantly enhancing the #ICG’s pollution response, firefighting and maritime safety and security capabilities.
It is the largest indigenously built ship in the Indian Coast Guard's (ICG's) fleet to enhance India's environmental response capabilities and bolster coastal patrol and maritime safety.
The ship is fitted with pollution response equipment including side-sweeping arms, floating booms, high-capacity skimmers, portable barges and a pollution control laboratory, the statement said. It also has an external firefighting system and automated and integrated bridge and platform management systems.
