Cape Town fire fighters battle through the night to bring Table View fire under control
A veld fire broke out around the Table View area in Cape Town on Wednesday, 8 June 2022. Fire fighters who arrived in seven trucks spent the night battling the fire. "The emergency call was received after 11h00 of reeds alight in Gill Road. The smoke was visible as far as the CBD and an aggressive attack was initiated to contain the fire," City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said.
Carelse said the cause of the fire in Table View remains unknown at this time. “But the weather may have something to do with it. We have had some exceptionally hot weather conditions. The fire has now been contained as of this morning (Thursday, 9 June 2022) around about 04h00am”, said Carelse. “The fire fighters were divided into Alpha and Brava divisions he explained and the former is still working on the active fire. We will have fresh crews coming in at 9am to continue with that operation. An extensive area of reeds burnt. No property was destroyed. No injuries or fatalities were reported," he added.
