15 killed and 37 injured in a bus and truck accident on the M17 Patryshoek, PretoriaTshwane Emergency Services received a call where it was reported that a bus and truck collided on the M17 Road in Patryshoek, near the Bundu Inn Resort in Pretoria on Friday, 10 June 2022, at approximately 05h05. Charles Mabaso, deputy chief: public information and liaison officer for the City of Tshwane Emergency Services, said, “Emergency Services arrived on scene to find a bus and truck that collided head on, with multiple patients lying around and some still trapped inside both vehicles. Tshwane fire fighters, Gauteng Emergency Medical Service and private ambulance services started with the treatment and extrication of the injured.”
“Paramedics declared 15 patients dead on scene, while 37 patients were transported to between Dr George Mukhari, Steve Biko and Kalafong hospitals. After further assessment of the 15 deceased, 10 were confirmed to females and five males; 26 patients sustained minor to moderate injuries, four sustained moderate to critical injuries and seven suffered critical injuries”, said Mabaso. “The M17 road remains closed between the N4 on ramp and off ramp and the K8, Rosslyn to allow the recovery of the deceased, the bus and truck as well as on scene investigations. The closure is anticipated to last more than five hours.” Mabaso added, “The MMC for Community Safety and Emergency Services, Alderman Theunissen Grandi has sadly taken note of the fatal accident and wishes to send the sincerest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and speedy recovery to the injured persons. As much as this is an accident, the MMC is pleading with all road users to always be cautious and drive with care and patient with each other on the road.” The cause of accident remains the subject of investigation by law enforcement agencies.
