Red and yellow brigade spreads Christmas cheer, Cape Town

The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services and Shoprite/Checkers are lending a helping hand to Santa by delivering gifts and festive treats to six community social welfare organisations. A fire truck loaded with Christmas goodies made its first delivery to the social services organisation, BADISA in Bellville South, on Friday, 19 December 2025. The other deliveries take place next week to United Sanctuary Against Abuse (Atlantis), Yizani Community Drop in Centre (Woodstock), Little Angels (Somerset West), Solomons Haven (New Woodlands) and Holiday Children's Home (Masiphumelele).
‘This time of year is one of goodwill, sharing and festivities. It’s also easy to forget that it’s not such a jolly time for many of our residents. Our firefighters are known for their bravery and dedication, but delivering gifts shows where their hearts really are and it’s with our communities. I commend them for taking the initiative and extending the magic of Christmas to some of our most vulnerable,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
‘Collaborating with the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services reflects our continued work to support organisations that work to uplift lives in our communities every day and we’re delighted to share the joy of the festive season with them,’ said Sanjeev Raghubir, Chief Sustainability Officer at the Shoprite Group.
