Large fire at bakery in Tempelhof, Berlin; over 100 firefighters on duty, Germany
A fire broke out in a production hall of a bakery in Berlin-Tempelhof around 01h40 on Monday morning, 15 July 2024. The bakery was already in operation. The nine employees who worked there were able to get to safety. More than a hundred firefighters were on site for several hours in the Gottlieb-Dunkel-Straße to extinguish the fire, it continued in the early morning.
However, the building continued to burn, even though firefighters attacked the fire from several sides including aerial ladders. Water for the fire was supplied from the Teltow Canal with multi-purpose boats. Drone teams were also deployed.
The fire brigade decided to give a warning to the local residents due to the smoke development via the apps Katwarn and Nina, which informed the surrounding residential areas about the smoke.
The Traffic Information Centre said that due to the major fire the in and out of Gradestraße of the A100 were closed.
The fire brigade was deployed for a longer deployment. The fire had subsided significantly by the morning, a spokesperson said. For the adjacent buildings, there is no more acute danger from the flames. However, the remains of the burning hall in the Gottlieb-Dunkel-Straße are in acute risk of collapse.
According to initial reports from the fire brigade, there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
