Double boost for Rheenendal: New fire engines handed over and e-Centre unveiled, Knysna

​On 10 June 2026, the Western Cape Government, in partnership with the Knysna Municipality, officially handed over two brand-new fire trucks to the local disaster management and firefighting teams in Rheenendal in Knysna.  The two milestones mark a significant investment in both digital access and public safety. The fire engines were required through funding by the Western Cape Provincial Capacity Grant and will be stationed in Rheenendal to strengthen local emergency response capacity and ensure that fire and rescue services are available closer to the community.
 
Knysna Executive Mayor Thando Matika said the new vehicles will enhance the municipality’s ability to protect lives, property and the environment while improving service delivery in the greater Rheenendal area. “The addition of these fire engines is a major boost for the safety and resilience of the Rheenendal community. By stationing the vehicles in Rheenendal, we are bringing essential emergency services closer to residents and improving our capacity to respond when assistance is needed,” said Mayor Matika.
 
“We are grateful to the Western Cape Government for its investment in this critical service and its continued support of our communities.”
