Firefighters injured during a roof collapse at a structural fire in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni

A major fire broke at an auto spares shop in van Riebeeck Avenue in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. The response included Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) as well as private fire service companies. The fire at the Korean Motor Spares shop injured several firefighters when the roof partially collapsed on top of them. Two firefighters from Fire Ops SA were hospitalised.
Both firefighters were reported to be in stable condition when transported to hospital for further medical care.
Medi Response provided on-site medical care to the injured personnel. Mamba Security (the business was a client) and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) cordoned off the area and diverted traffic from Van Riebeeck Avenue.
The fire broke out around 11:00am and it took over five hours for teams to bring the structural fire under control. Approximately 70 people were safely evacuated from the motor spares business.
The presence of highly flammable materials, such as engine and transmission oils, intensified the blaze and complicated suppression efforts.
