Four alarm fire near Phoenix factory in Arizona, US
A crew of over 150 responded to a wind-driven fire at a pallet yard late Tuesday night in Phoenix. According to Phoenix Fire, crews arrived at the scene near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road just after 22h00 on Tuesday, 17 May 2022 and immediately called for backup. When additional fire fighters arrived, a surround and drown operation was established, "with elevated master streams and flowing big water to suppress the flames and keep them from extending to nearby businesses."
As crews were battling the fire, the wind posed a major issue because it helped flames spread to neighbouring yards. The main body of the fire was controlled. Crews were still on scene Wednesday morning to extinguish hot spots. No injuries were reported. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. Some truckers are out of work for the time being because of the fire, like Miguel Sanchez. He's a trucker and when he arrived at the yard to start his shift, he saw his truck was in the middle of the mess. "I was ready to go to work but I couldn't …," he said. It turns out his truck is OK but that isn't the case for others parked inside as many were burnt to a crisp. "It's my dad's shop. We work here, we have tools here," Sanchez said. Bryan Luna says he had a car in the yard that was a passion project of his. Now it's gone. As for Sanchez, he's losing days of work until he can get his truck out of the yard.
