Drakenstein fire engine overturns, rolls; five injured including three firefighters, Paarl

A fire engine from Drakenstein Fire and Rescue Service overturned enroute to an incident on Friday, 7 March 2025. Dereck Peceur, Head: Fire and Rescue Operations and Training, Drakenstein Fire and Rescue Service, said, “At 09h15 we responded to an incident in southern Paarl. Enroute our vehicle was involved in an accident causing the vehicle to overturn and rolling several times.”
He added, “We had three members on the vehicle with a fourth driving in a separate vehicle. The other vehicle involved in the accident had five passengers of which two were taken to hospital for treatment.”
“The three staff members sustained varying degrees and injuries during the accident. They were transported to Paarl Medi Clinic for treatment. All three were discharged from hospital on the same day,” said Peceur.
“Trauma and debrief counselling were made available to all staff involved.”
Fire and Rescue International received an update from the service that all three staff members are back on duty.
