Firefighting helicopter crashes in Uiseong County, South Korea, one fatality 

​On 26 March 2025, a Sikorsky S-76 crashed in South Korea, killing the pilot. The helicopter was dispatched to fight wildfires in Uiseong County. An eyewitness reported seeing a yellow firefighting helicopter falling from the sky, prompting an emergency service deployment. The helicopter crashed at about 12h54pm local time (0354 GMT) on a hill in Uiseong, about 180km southeast of the capital Seoul, while working to extinguish forest fires.
 
The pilot was found dead. The cause of the accident was under investigation.
 
Firefighters continued to fight the forest fires which have been the worst in decades. Strong winds fuel the disaster, which already killed 27 people, displaced over 27 000 and destroyed a 1 300-year-old temple.
