Thatch home in Cape Town gutted in early morning fire
A thatch home in the Cape Town suburb of Pinelands was gutted in an early morning fire on Friday, 17 April 2020. Jermaine Carelse, The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, said fire fighters responded at 2h08am to reports of a dwelling fire in 13 Forest Drive, Pinelands. The first response was two fire engines and a water tanker from Epping Fire Station, however, when the first fire engine arrived on scene fire fighters found the double-storey thatched roof dwelling was well alight and called for backup. The additional response was a rescue vehicle from Ottery Fire Station, a tanker from Goodwood and fire engines from Salt River and Brooklyn Fire Stations. Altogether, 26 fire fighters were on the scene of the fire, which was extinguished at 7h24am. Fortunately the two occupants managed to escape the raging inferno unscathed but the home was completely gutted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
