Vintage: Frogmen Firemen East Ham, London (1957)

M/S of a telephonist sitting at his desk writing something while on the telephone. C/U shot of his hand as he writes. He turns around and rings the fire alarm. C/U shot of the bell ringing. M/S of a fireman as he slides down the pole and runs towards the fire engine. M/S of a man climbing up the fire engine. This is East Ham fire station which has introduced a special unit - frogmen firemen. M/S of the firemen climbing into the fire engine. M/S of the two frogmen getting ready for action. C/U of their hands picking up their flippers and goggles. M/S of the frogmen as they run towards the fire engine and get on. L/S of the fire engine driving off. Several shots of the fire engine driving through the busy London streets with its siren on. This is an exercise, which will demonstrate the work of the first frogmen firemen unit in Britain. Exercise is about to take place on King George the Fifth Dock.

Fire engine stops and the frogmen get out ready for action. C/U top shot of the water bubbling. The frogmen climb down the stairs and enter the water. L/S of the crowd watching the action. Top shot of the frogman swimming. Cut to the crowds watching. Medium top shot of the two frogmen dragging a dummy (this was an exercise) out of the water.

M/S of a bright yellow van stopping next to the fire engine. Two police officers come out and take a bed out of the van. It is artificial resuscitation bed which is basically a rocking bed which rocks vertically instead of horizontally. Firemen carry a man to the bed to demonstrate how the device works. Man is placed on the bed with his face down (there is a face hole on the bed) and tied to it. Several shots of the man being rocked up and down rhythmically.

Note: Frogmen firemen names are Ken Jenkins and James Tait.
