Fire fighters recognised for selfless service to the community, Cape Winelands
Drakenstein Municipality's Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management played host to a celebration ceremony on Friday, 27 May 2022, to honour the area's fire fighters who selflessly serve the community at large. The event was also held to commemorate International Fire Fighters Day, which is celebrated annually on 4 May.
The day's celebrations commenced with a motorcade and a drill squad, involving members from Drakenstein Municipality's Fire Services, the Cape Winelands Fire Department, Breede Valley Fire Department and Stellenbosch Fire Services. Chaplin Daniel Solomons delivered a powerful sermon, highlighting the four R principles: remember, reflect, refocus and restoration. Members were acknowledged for their efforts, determination and passion, while tribute was paid to those who have passed on. Drakenstein Municipality Mayoral Committee Member for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Lorenzo Arendse, delivered an inspiring speech to honour the fire fighters for their dedication, commitment and for serving the community. Also in attendance were Drakenstein Municipality’s City Manager, Dr Johan Leibbrandt, Community Services Executive Director, Gerald Esau, Chief Fire Officer Derick Damons and fire fighters from all over the region.
