Ekurhuleni crews respond to MVA, shack and house firesEkurhuleni emergency crews responded to several incidents including a motor vehicle accident (MVA) on the R50 towards Delmas, a shack fire in the Ekukhanyeni Informal Settlement and a house fire in Springs. Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS)’s Eric Maloka said, “On Wednesday evening at approximately 20h45, Rynfield Fire Station crews were dispatched to a horror crash in R50 road direction Delmas. Upon their arrival they reported that the motor vehicle accident claimed two lives, that of a male driver and a female passenger. Two female passengers from a sedan and one male driver from the bakkie were transported to Sunshine and Glenwood hospitals respectively in critical condition. Apparently, the bakkie was travelling from Delmas toward Bapsfontein when suddenly T-boned with an Audi A3 sedan that was crossing toward Kleinsonderhout direction. Fire and rescue extricated the two trapped deceased bodies, which were later declared by ER24 paramedic.”
Maloka added, “The extant details of what exactly happened before the crash were not immediately clear and the scene was handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) to further with investigation.” Shack fire in Ekukhanyeni Informal Settlement on 18 May 2022 “A district turnout including Palm Ridge and Zonkezizwe fire and rescue teams were dispatched to a recycling site at Ekukhanyeni Informal Settlement at approximately 22h30. They offensively and defensively extinguished the fire and started with the search and rescue where they discovered an adult male body. Gauteng Provincial Medical Services declared the body. The cause of the fire is still subjected to investigation and the scene was handed over to SAPS to continue with the investigation”, said Maloka. House fire at 10 Torium Densley Road in Springs In the evening of Sunday 22 May 2022 at approximately 21h50, a district turnout including Springs and Etwatwa fire and rescue teams were dispatched to a house of fire at 10 Torium Densley Road in Springs. On their arrival, they found a two bedroom house that is partitioned for rental, alight. A defensive and offensive mode to compact the fire was put in action and during the search and rescue, they discovered three bodies. A toddler body with third degree burns and another body of a child and mother were discovered with possible smoke inhalation. All three bodies were confirmed by a family member who was in vicinity when the fire occurred. The deceased were all declared on scene by a paramedic. The departmental fire safety official was dispatched to the scene and the cause of the fire is still the subject of investigation. The scene was handed over to SAPS to further with investigation.
