Umpiluzi Fire Protection Association holds awareness day, Mpumalanga
Umpiluzi Fire Protection Association held a wildfire awareness day on Tuesday, 10 May 2022. Agri Online joined the fight against forest and veld fires in Warburton, Mpumalanga. The story of Umpiluzi Fire Protection Association starts in 2004 when the Umpiluzi landowners saw the need for protecting their assets from veld- and forest fires and therefore formed this fire protection association. The Umpiluzi Fire Protection Association's fight against an increasing number of fires is very interesting and informative while protecting the forestry and farmland which spans over 660 000 hectares.
Various companies offered their services and products in live demonstrations throughout the day. The community's awareness about fires plays a vital role in the fight against uncontrolled fires. The FPA’s services include aerial fire fighting, fire fighting ground crews, dispatch and coordination centre, electronic camera fire detection, incident command centre, fire awareness, weather forecasting and updates, burning permit issuing, GIS mapping, fire training, legal advice and assistance.
