Fire guts Oando tank farm in Lagos
A fire gutted a tank farm in the Oando Depot on Gaskiya Road, in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State on Thursday, 5 November 2020. Fire has engulfed a tank farm owned by Oando, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported. The Oando tank farm at Gaskiya Road, Ijora Badia, is the site of the blaze. The fire, which cause was yet to be ascertained at press time, was said to have begun from one of the tanks in the facility which contained about 7,8 million litres of gas. According to the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Oke-Osanyitolau, the fire was finally extinguished with the combined efforts of private and public emergency response teams. He added that LASEMA responders plus Federal Fire, LASG Fire, Nigerian Navy Fire, Nigerian Police and Forte Oil Fire Service were “currently battling the inferno to curtail it from escalating to other tanks in the depot”. Oke-Osanyintolu said the state government would be conducting a joint investigation and assessment in order to implement measures aimed at preventing a reoccurrence. Oando PLC is a Nigerian multinational energy company operating in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. It has an enterprise value of about N520 billion and market capitalisation value of N115.1 billion. The agency was not able to immediately determine the cause of the fire.
