Tshwane Emergency Services search after three people fall into a stormwater system in Iscor, Tshwane
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department was alerted by the Soutth African Police Services about an incident that occurred yesterday, Tuesday, 25 November 2025 in the Iscor area where three individuals were sitting near a stormwater channel when one of the missing victims allegedly fell into the drainage system. Nana Radebe-Kgiba, deputy chief, Public Information and Liaison Services at the City of Tshwane Emergency Services, said “When the other two gentlemen tried to rescue him and pull him out of the water system there was a sudden heavy water flow that swept them away. The incident happened around 7pm in the evening and search and rescue efforts were halted as it started to rain hard and the currency of the water was strong.”
She added, “The South African Police Service (SAPS) divers, together with the Emergency Services Department’s Swift Water Rescue divers, immediately launched a coordinated search operation for the three missing males early Wednesday morning. Community members joined the search and discovered the body of one of the victims along the Apies River, near the Eskia Mphahlele Drive, Pretoria.”
“Rescue teams are continuing with intensified search efforts along the Apies River for the remaining two missing individuals. The search operation is being conducted under challenging conditions due to strong water currents and reduced visibility, but all available resources have been deployed to locate the victims,” said Radebe-Kgiba.
The City urges residents to avoid riverbanks, stormwater channels and low-lying bridges as water levels remain dangerously high. Community members are also requested not to conduct their own search attempts as this poses significant risk.
