Gauteng USAR Team returns after seven day SAR assistance/mission to Kwa-Zulu Natal floods
The Tshwane Search and Rescue Team that deployed to KwaZulu-Natal with Urban Search and Rescue South Africa (USAR-SA01) arrived home after assisting in search operations for seven days. Charles Mabaso, deputy chief: public information and liaison officer at the City of Tshwane Emergency Services and team leader reported, “The team, which included Cities of Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Gauteng EMS, arrived at Northview Fire Station, situated at 1 Waverley Street, Gresswold in Johannesburg in the early hours of Thursday, 28 April 2022, where it offloaded and repacked equipment. The team completed repacking and storage of equipment at approximately 08h00am after which team members departed to their respective organisations. The team’s 28 deployments included nine body recoveries at Marian Hill, Amamzimtoti, New Castle, Katumena, Mvutshini, Umhlathuzana River and Mtuzuma.”
