Light aircraft makes forced landing on R44 in Stellenbosch
A Piper PA-28R-200 Cherokee Arrow II light aircraft made a forced landing on the main road between Stellenbosch and Somerset West on Wednesday, 1 June 2022, after takeoff from Stellenbosch Airport. The accident happened on the R44 that connects Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Emergency services including Metro Rescue, Netcare 911 and ER24 responded to the scene. The pilot and passenger, both adult males, sustained serious injuries.
Both patients were treated on scene and once stabilised, were transported by ambulance to Stellenbosch MediClinic for further care. The aircraft received substantial damage.
