Dräger South Africa’s fourth annual Fire and Rescue Combat Challenge
Dräger South Africa recently held its fourth annual Fire and Rescue Combat Challenge at its head office. “For the fourth consecutive year, we hosted the Dräger Fire and Rescue Challenge at the Dräger South Africa head office in Johannesburg. The idea came from a round table discussion in Secunda five years ago when, together with Willem and Kumar, we pondered on how we could get closer to the firefighting community. The first step was to get our own fire team, which marked the birth of the Dräger Warriors. Competing side by side and against the professionals, we quickly made a name in the community and coincidentally, competing in the latest Dräger equipment, we showed our trust in our product while using it. But what could we do to get our customers in Dräger kit? Host an event where all fire fighters attending and competing, will do so in Dräger equipment”, said Wimpie van Onselen of Dräger South Africa.
The Dräger Fire and Rescue Challenge consisted of three elements ie the Tower Challenge, Rebel Challenge and Rescue Challenge.
“At the Tower Challenge, teams test their fitness and strengths working together as a team to complete the various obstacles in the event. At the Rebel Challenge, it really comes down to your strength, fitness and willingness! At the Rescue Challenge, teams need to navigate their way through the maze in zero visibility, find a trapped person, in this case mannequin and rescue him from the area”, said Van Onselen.
The event had several exhibitors including ETS, Firebreak and Hamilton Hydraulics with Fire and Rescue International as media partner.
The day ended with a number of awards and medals handed out to the event winners.
“A huge shout out and thanks to all the guys that supported with the event, too many names to mention. Without your support, this would not be a success. In 2025, we plan on going even bigger, this due to it being the fifth event!”
