Mangaung Fire and Rescue crews respond to yet another truck accident on N1
A heavy commercial vehicle veered of the N1 South about 15km from Bloemfontein on a straight road and rolled in the early hours of Thursday, 26 November 2020. “The driver of a heavy duty truck possibly fell asleep during the early hours of the morning. The vehicle veered of the straight road and overturned”, said Braam van Zyl, divisional officer at Mangaung Fire and Rescue Service. “We received the call at 06h00am and responded with a fire engine with a crew of five, arriving at 06h15. Free State Provincial Ambulance Services (EMS), Halo Air Ambulance, traffic and Police were also on scene. The driver’s arm and leg were trapped. The assistance of a break down vehicle was needed to lift the vehicle in order for emergency rescue workers to free the patient with hydraulic equipment. The air ambulance landed at 06h52 and the patient was air lifted to a Bloemfontein hospital.
