Man killed by high voltage overhead power lines in Rondebult, Ekurhuleni

An unknown, middle-aged man was found hanging head down on the high voltage electrical power lines on the railway line in Rondebult Friday morning, 29 January 2021, in Ekurhuleni. William Ntladi, district manager media liaison: Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) said, “The fire and rescue team from Wadeville Fire Station swiftly responded to the scene after receiving the call at 09h42 via the City of Ekuhuleni`s call centre.  On arrival, the motionless body was still hanging on an 8,5-metre-high switch structure above the rail-line. A team of seven rescuers successfully managed to recover the body down to the ground, using a ground ladder and ropes. The power supply had to be isolated first for safety reasons before the recovery could commence.  It is alleged that the deceased was tampering with the live 3 000V power lines that ended with fatal electrocution to the deceased. The body was handed over to the forensic pathologist for the removal to an appropriate pathological facility and the Police who started with their investigations.”
