Four people, including two fire fighters, killed in house fire in north-western Oklahoma, US
Four people, including two fire fighters, were killed in a house fire early Friday morning, 29 January 2021, in the north-western Oklahoma town of Waynoka. Around 03h07am, a fire was reported at 1754 Locust Street by residents stating the house was on fire and they were stuck in a bedroom, according to the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal's Office. The eight-member Waynoka Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene at 0316. A request for mutual aid was dispatched at 03h24am and the Alva Fire Department responded. The Woodward Fire Department also sent units and personnel to the scene. The Waynoka Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and reported the fire blocking the door. Fire fighters were unable to reach the victims through the window. The fire was initially reported by a person trapped in a bedroom of the home, and two fire fighters heroically entered the home and found a man and woman in a bedroom. While attempting to perform rescues, there was a reported collapse killing the fire fighters and the victims. On social media, Pond Creek Fire and EMS Fire and Rescue Chaplain Les Washnock said the fire fighters who died were trapped when the roof collapsed during a search for victims. "It is with heavy heart that we mourn the loss of two volunteer fire fighters from the Waynoka Fire Department," Washnock said. The fire fighters killed in the line of duty were Waynoka fire fighter Tayler Bradford, aged 28 and Chief Lonnie Bolar, aged 45. Chief Bolar had served 15 years in the fire service, while Bradford had served nine. The investigation is ongoing.
