Tinglev 2026: European USAR solidarity in action - Training for the "Real Mission"

From 23 to 26 January 2026, Tinglev, Denmark, became the epicentre of a massive international earthquake simulation. Hundreds of experts from across Europe gathered to test their skills, refine their skills and prove that when disaster strikes, we stand together. Here is the breakdown of our mission behind the scenes: The first challenge? Understanding the situation. As teams arrived, the first priority was gathering information and establishing the Base of Operations (BoO) to ensure efficient coordination.
The Croatian drone team took to the skies, assessing damage and directing rescue teams to the most critical sites. Speed is life and a clear overview is the first step to saving it.
The intensity peaked in the following days. While the Lithuanian USAR team worked tirelessly through the rubble, in Aabenraa harbour a Hungarian team tackled a complex rescue operation on a crane. We were also honoured to welcome VIP guests who witnessed the Polish Urban Search and Rescue Team.
Can a building withstand the aftershocks? Before rescue operations can even begin, safety must be guaranteed. Spanish structural engineers worked hand-in-hand with USAR teams from Hungary and France to assess stability. This is what we call interoperability—the ability to work seamlessly across language barriers and different organisational structures. It is our strongest tool in international disaster response.

Disasters don't recognise borders, and neither does our commitment. This exercise was a powerful display of the "Civil Protection Spirit"—bravery, resilience and a shared mission to protect citizens.
A massive shoutout to all participating teams: Croatia, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and the Danish venue management and all supporters from Tinglev and its surroundings.
