Tshwane Emergency Services respond to a structural fire at Quagga Shopping Centre

On Saturday, 1 November 2025, the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department responded to a structural fire incident at Quagga Shopping Centre in Pretoria West on Monday afternoon. Nana Radebe-Kgiba, deputy chief, Public Information and Liaison Services at the City of Tshwane Emergency Services, said, “The Emergency Communication Centre received a call reporting the fire shortly after 13h00. Fire engines from various fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.”
“Upon arrival, fire crews entered the shopping centre to assess the situation and located the blaze at the African Bank branch. Fortunately, all customers and employees managed to evacuate the building safely despite thick smoke filling parts of the centre. Four patients were treated on-site by private medical services for smoke inhalation”, she added.
“Through a coordinated firefighting effort, the blaze was swiftly brought under control, preventing further spread to nearby shops. Mopping-up operations were completed within an hour and the scene was cleared approximately two hours later. Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire”, said Nana Radebe-Kgiba.
