Research Alliance for Disaster and Risk Reduction (RADAR) offering series of short courses
The Research Alliance for Disaster and Risk Reduction (RADAR), based at Stellenbosch University, offers accredited short courses, as well as bespoke training programmes on request. They are currently accepting applications for several three-day accredited short courses in October and November 2021. These courses are relevant for those working in emergency management, disaster management and all sectors of local government. Choose from Disasters and Development (online), Community Risk Assessment (contact) or Introduction to Data and Research (blended).
Disasters and Development: 12 to 14 October 2021 This course introduces basic disaster risk management principles and concepts demonstrating the importance of risk reduction in development and planning. It focuses on strengthening disaster risk management in the African context, with an emphasis on mitigating urban risks. Community Risk Assessment: 9 to 11 November 2021 This course instructs participants in the skills and tools needed to undertake community-based risk assessments, particularly in disaster-prone informal settlements. Introduction to Data and Research: 16 to18 November 2021 This course provides participants with foundational knowledge on the kinds of information available to assess disaster risk, where to find information and basic data, collection tools, incorporating practical exercises. All RADAR’s courses are endorsed by the Disaster Management Institute of South Africa (DMISA). Successful participants can earn up to five CPD points.
