Four South African firefighters participating in the Aramco Firefighter Challenge 2024

Four firefighters from South Africa, are participating in the Aramco Firefighter Challenge 2024 in Saudi Arabia. The four South Africans are Emile and Bonnie Conrad from Garden Route District Municipality and Baigum Abrahams and Alno Kroon from the City of Cape Town. They will compete in the Toughest Firefighter Alive Individuals and Relays as well as the Stair Run Challenge (16 storey building).
Taking place at the Dhahran Expo from 5 to 9 March 2024, this year's participants include 113 international firefighters from 26 different countries including the USA, South Africa, Australia, Brazil and others, 92 national heroes and 103 divisional champions. The age-diverse line-up ensures a thrilling competition, with competitors ranging from the energetic 20-24 category to the seasoned veterans aged 60 and above.
1. Toughest Firefighter Alive
Bravery meets endurance in this ultimate test of physical and mental strength. Competitors will face a gauntlet of obstacles, showcasing their firefighting skills in real-world scenarios.
2. Toughest Firefighter Alive Relay
Teamwork takes centre stage in this relay, where squads of firefighters pass the torch through a series of gruelling challenges, demonstrating the importance of coordination and communication.
3. Stair Run Challenge
Climbing to new heights! Competitors ascend staircases, simulating the challenges faced in tall structures during firefighting missions. A true test of leg strength and cardiovascular endurance.
4. Firehouse Cook-off
It's not just about fighting fires; it's about cooking up a storm! Watch as firefighters showcase their culinary skills in a friendly competition, proving they can handle the heat in and out of the fire.
5. Personal Protective Equipment
Precision is key in this challenge where firefighters must gear up swiftly and accurately, emphasizing the importance of being ready for action at a moment's notice.
6. Fire Truck Challenge
Navigate the powerful firefighting apparatus through a challenging course, demonstrating driving skills and control under pressure.
7. Vehicle Extraction
When every second counts, competitors will showcase their prowess in safely and efficiently extracting individuals from simulated emergency scenarios involving vehicles.
8. High Angled Rescue
Take the competition to new heights as firefighters execute daring rescues from elevated positions, showcasing their technical rope work and rescue skills.
