Windsor Locksfire engine rammed at highway crash scene, Connecticut, US
A passing vehicle smashed into a Windsor Locks fire engine on Interstate 91 south Wednesday morning, 4 January 2023, while firefighters were tending to a crash scene, according to the Connecticut State Police, US. The fire truck was blocking the right and right-centre lanes of a four-lane stretch of I-91 South near Exit 38 after 04h00am while on the scene of a prior crash, state police said. A 58-year-old Suffield woman driving a Ford Escape in the right-centre lane then struck the front driver’s side of the fire truck, state police.
The woman was transported to St Francis Hospital for minor injuries. No firefighters were injured in the accident as no one was in the fire truck at the time of the collision, state police said. The woman was found at fault for the crash and issued infractions for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to move over or slow down for an emergency vehicle. “In accordance with state law, motorists traveling on Connecticut roadways are reminded to move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, police vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, CT DOT and other highway maintenance vehicles,” state police said.
