Three children killed as BMW driver ploughs into several people in Pretoria
A driver of a BMW sedan ran over nine pedestrians, killing three female pedestrians and injuring the other six before crashing into a tree. Charles Mabaso, deputy chief: public information and liaison officer at the City of Tshwane Emergency Services, said, “The incident occurred at approximately 17h03 near a traffic circle on 6th and Koch Street at Salvokop in Pretoria. Emergency Services arrived on scene to find multiple patients scattered around the scene with the sedan under a partially collapsed tree.”
Mabasa added, “The drive of the sedan could not be found at the scene of the accident. Three female children aged around five years’ old, were declared dead by paramedics on the scene. Two female patients, of which one is nine months pregnant were transported to Steve Biko Hospital with moderate to serious injuries. Four other female patients were also transported to hospital with minor to moderate injuries.” Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, said, “On arrival on the scene a BMW sedan was found to have left the roadway, striking seven pedestrians and killing three of them. Twin four-year-old sisters were found killed as well as a third four-year-old little girl. Four adults suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate.” The scene was handed over to the South African Polices Services for further handing and investigations.
