Association of Former Fire Chiefs and Commanders (AFFCC) get together, Johannesburg
Some 7 or 8 years ago, Wynand Engelbrecht, former CFO of Midrand and ACO of Sandton and current CEO of private fire service Fire Ops South Africa, decided it was time to create an informal organisation for former chiefs and other senior officers. It became known as the Association of Former Fire Chiefs and Commanders or AFFCC for short, with the purpose of being a social group but also a group that could be consulted by anyone wishing to gain from the literally 1 000s of years of combined experience and knowledge.
Former CFOs from all over South Africa joined up and even former Alberton CFO Anthony Davey joined up from his home in Cyprus. We are currently about 70 members strong.
We occasionally get together informally to renew old and long-standing friendships and share war stories. Unfortunately not all members can always attend due to geographic reasons but for those that do, it is always a memorable occasion. This photo was taken on Friday, 13 October 2023, at the Ruimsig Country Club in Roodepoort on just such an occasion.
For those that don’t recognise the more mature faces (tongue in cheek): left from front to rear:
Tobie Wiese, Nic Vos, Wyannd Engelbrecht, Hennie Hamman, Jannie Welthagen and Boet Hamman. On the right we have Luke Hartog, Herman Human, Bert Evert, Ronnie Cloete, Hans Hamman and David Farrell.
