Minnesota fire fighters rescue huge buck that fell through ice into lake, US
Thief River Falls fire fighters rescued a buck from the ice of the Red Lake River in Minnesota, US. The buck, which has a massive set of no typical antlers, had fallen through the ice near the new bridge on Mark Boulevard at the south end of city limits, Fire Chief Rick Beier said. The group of volunteer fire fighters came to the aid of the huge buck. The buck was located around 8h00am on Monday, 5 December 2022. Chief Beier assembled a team of 10 fire fighters to pull the large buck to shore.
Video footage and images show the rescuers throwing a strap around the deer’s antlers and pulling it out of the water onto the bank. "We let him sit on the ice for a minute or two and he didn’t do anything, so then we slid him to the edge," said Chief Beier. "And then there’s about a 3- or 4-foot embankment and then we got him up on the bank right on the edge of the woods." Beier said the buck sat there for a few minutes before rising to its feet and stumbling into the woods. No one knows how long the impressive buck had been trapped in the icy river but the department wrote on Facebook that it was "happy to announce that this beautiful buck will live another day."
