11 September 2001, 22 years on; May we never forget

On 11 September, first responders worldwide paused to remember the tragedy of 2001. The 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks were marked with solemn ceremonies across the US.
The 22nd anniversary commemoration ceremony in New York took place on the Memorial plaza and focused on an in-person reading of the names by family members. Throughout the ceremony, they observed six moments of silence, acknowledging when each of the World Trade Centre towers was struck and fell and the times of the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93.
On that day, “we were one country, one nation, one people, just like it should be," Eddie Ferguson, the fire-rescue chief in Virginia’s Goochland County, said by phone before the anniversary.
On this 22nd anniversary, Fire and Rescue International honour the memory of those lost, stand in solidarity with their loved ones and express our deepest gratitude to the brave first responders. Let their legacy inspire unity, resilience and hope.
