Midvaal Fire and Rescue Department respond to several incidents over weekend, including a lady giving birth at the fire station

Midvaal Fire and Rescue Service Department responded to several incidents over the weekend of 10 and 11 February 2024. Tertius Engelbrecht, station officer at Midvaal Fire and Rescue Department, said, Firstly, we had a rubbish dump on fire in Midvaal. The fire was burning from 1 February 2024 and was finally extinguished on 10 February 2024. Earth moving equipment was used to open the dumps for us to extinguish the fire. The fire hydrant was used on the premises to supply the fire engine with water. Then from 10 until 11 February 2024 the following calls were responded to:“
10 February 2024 at 17h00: We responded to a motor vehicle accident on Welgevonden Road in De Deur, where one vehicle overturned. One patient was seriously injured, another patient was moderately injured and the third patient was slightly injured.
10 February 2024 at 21h30: We responded to a motor vehicle accident in Meyerton where a vehicle had overturned. Two patients were injured.
11 February 2024 at 01h00: We responded to an oil spill on Welback Road in De Deur.
11 February 2024 at 06h45: We responded to another motor vehicle accident on Weilback/Boundary roads in De Deur where a taxi overturned. Two patients were seriously injured and five had moderate injuries.
11 February 2024 at 08h00: We responded to a medical call in Meyerton CBD where a patient was found deceased in vehicle from possible heart failure.
11 February 2024 at 08h50: We responded to another taxi that overturned, this time on Morris Road in Meyerton. 18 patients were injured.
11 February 2024 at 13h30: A lady gave birth at Meyerton Fire Station and was assisted by fire personnel.
“For the MVAs triage areas were set up and patients were treated and transported according to the severities of injuries. On scene were ER24, CERT Community Vehicle, Gauteng EMS who treated all the patients”, said Engelbrecht.
