Approximately 17 people were injured on the morning of Monday, 6 March 2023, when a bus and taxi collided on Abu Baker Drive in Soweto, Johannesburg. ER24 and other services arrived on the scene at 07h10am to find the taxi partially smashed beneath the front of the bus. Several passengers were found seated on the pavement while the taxi driver lay trapped in his vehicle.
Rescue services had to use specialised equipment to free the driver from the taxi. Once released, medics assessed the patients and found five were in serious condition while several others had sustained minor to moderate injuries. The patients were treated and the seriously injured were provided with advanced life support before they were transported to nearby hospitals for further care.
