Fire stations of the world: Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s new Crewe Fire Station officially opened, UK

The new Crewe Fire Station was officially opened by His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Lady Alexis Redmond MBE, on Friday, 3 May 2024. The carbon neutral building has been built by construction company ISG, who have worked on other Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service projects such as the award-winning Chester Fire Station. Housing two fire engines and a specialist vehicle, the station is designed to exacting environmental standards to achieve “Zero Carbon” for regulated energy, meeting Cheshire Fire Authority’s aspiration of being carbon neutral by 2045.
Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, Alex Waller, said, “The new station is a fantastic asset to the community of Crewe. The facilities within the building deliver a better working environment for firefighters and staff, provide up-to-date training facilities and a newly refurbished, dedicated space for engaging with the local groups”.
The landmark facility on Crewe Road has been built as part of the Authority’s modernisation programme, to ensure its premises meet the needs and requirements of a modern fire and rescue service. The £7m project represents the largest single investment to date by the Authority as part of this programme of works.
Chair of Cheshire Fire Authority, Councillor Stef Nelson, said, “Cheshire Fire Authority has dedicated a significant amount of funding across the whole of Cheshire to bring many of our fire stations and premises up to date to meet the needs of our firefighters and staff; give them better workplaces and make our facilities more sustainable, environmentally friendly and cost effective. This important work ensures that the communities we serve are provided with a first-class fire and rescue service.”
To enable the construction, a temporary fire station was erected on this site with crews using it as a base to respond to emergencies and other incidents from October 2022, until moving into the new station on 1 November 2023.
